A The Basic Guide to Retinols

One of the most popular trends in the skin care industry right now is retinols. As wonderful as retinol products can be many people either over use them too quickly or are too afraid to use them at all. Here is a quick and simple guide to the basic need to knows before starting to use retinols in your skin care routine.

First off Retinol is a chemical compound of vitamin A, that through independent research was proven to visibly reduce the signs of aging and acne.

When it comes to aging, retinol stimulates new skin cell production and strengthen the fibers that help skin stay firm. By improving these aspects of skin, retinols are able reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. As far as Acne, retinol helps slow down oil production and fade scars and pigmentation that can be left behind from acne break outs.

When you first start using retinol products you want to slowly introduce the products to your regular routine. On many occasions we recommend starting off with the product once a week for a month,  then slowly add it in to twice or three times a week for a month, then every other day for a month. If your skin starts to get irritated or over stimulated at any of these phases go back to the previous step and contact your esthetician.

Like always you should consult with your esthetician first before you introduce any active products, like retinol to your skin care regimen.

Here at Bella Gia we have two amazing products that contain .05% pure retinol, intensive age refine and intensive clarity from PCA (physician’s care alliance), as well as retinal boosters that are a great way to enhance your facials.
